The authorial lens

अहम् अस्मि

The Human Passage

In Sanskrit, अहम् अस्मि means I Am. I use the name not to hide a person behind mystery, but to keep the smaller history from becoming the object. The life matters as a lens through which the work passed, shaped by what the body carried, how discipline formed it, and how listening was learned.

A warm gold lens rises from dark water, held in a quiet field of mist.

What follows is not autobiography for its own sake. I offer these details because every book passes through a lens. The reader may notice the glass without mistaking it for the light.

A small protected light rests beneath a fading gold arc before calculation begins.

Before calculation

Love Does Not Have A Choice

When a baby is in danger, the hand reaches before the mind divides helper and helped.

That instant names the center from which I have tried to write. Beneath goodness and rules, before any image of oneself as loving, there is a choiceless movement, life answering life. Paradise is not somewhere else. It is the state in which Love flows without interruption and without bargaining. Just Being answering Being.

A thin river of gold moves through a dark field before any explanation is added.

Nature

Silence Before Commentary

A mountain does not explain itself. A river does not defend its method.

Nature brings the mind closest to the silence that does not ask to be seen. The world is not waiting to be solved from outside. It may only be waiting for the one who looks to stop standing outside it. The deepest understanding is not to know the universe as an object, but to become transparent enough for the universe to recognize itself through one body and one breath.

A dark ruined threshold rests beneath a delicate branch of small gold cherry lights.

Childhood

Ruins, Sirens, Cherry Tree

The body knew impermanence before the mind named it.

My first years passed in a city that knew war before history could explain it. Sirens and shelters entered the body with trembling walls. A child does not philosophize about war. A child absorbs the world. And yet ordinary life persisted. Children played in the ruins of demolished homes. The house was gone, but the cherry tree beside it flourished the next summer. War had erased the walls, but not the sweetness.

Several small gold lights gather around a central glow, suggesting family and relation.

Family field

The Word I Arrived Surrounded

The I did not arrive alone.

The I arrived inside a field, not alone. Nearness taught. Rivalry taught. Protection and tenderness taught. Duty taught the quiet education of sharing the same air. Beyond the city, the countryside and mountains taught another grammar. Under a sky crowded with stars, the child did not feel outside the world. The world was not outside him. Later, traditions of relationship with land and prayer did not arrive as abstractions only. Not the same tradition. Not the same law. Not the same sacred inheritance. But a distant human kinship touched a bodily memory already there.

A restrained constellation of forces and system lines gathers around one bright question.

Structure

The Machines Taught Relation

Physics, mathematics, and engineering trained the eye to see what holds without always appearing.

A bridge does not stand apart from its forces. Neither does a body. Neither does a society or a cosmos. Technical and scientific work across more than one country sharpened the sense of pattern and consequence. But it did not answer the older question: Who am I? Later work around artificial intelligence and value carried the same pressure in another form. What is value before price? What is intelligence before calculation? How can a system serve the circulation of life rather than merely extract from it?

Two fine gold currents descend toward one shared pressure of light.

Two labors

One Pressure

The technical labor and these volumes may look like different works. To me, they are not separate.

One asks how value may circulate in the world. The other asks what human beings have called valuable when standing before the Real. There are works one chooses, and works that choose you. These labors have often felt like the second kind. They are not romantic or always pleasant. They are quietly placed in the hands with no permission to put them down.

A low gold altar shape and faint ring hold the day before sleep.

Night labor

Each Night, The Day Is Given Back

Whatever has been achieved, and whatever failed, is placed inwardly on the altar of Beingness.

I place the plan for the next day there too, not as demand but as offering. Bharata guarding Rama’s sandals gives the shape, action continuing while ownership is surrendered. Then sleep performs its hidden chemistry. Sometimes what daylight could not solve returns with a form the will did not force. Intention works best after it has surrendered ownership of itself.

A low folded page shape releases faint chord-like arcs and threshold traces into gold mist.

Music and books

Harmony Is Not Sameness

A chord gathers many notes without forcing them to become one note.

Classical music and piano became ways of learning this. So did poetry, the Tao Te Ching, and the Bhagavad Gita. Often the melody speaks before meaning arrives. A poem is humble enough to fail beautifully; it shines, breaks, pauses, and gestures. Inanna descends and returns changed. Emily Dickinson turns inwardness into a universe. Parmenides stands like a clean stone before Being. Brahman and Abraham carry the pressure of absolute Beingness and surrendered ground.

Gold fragrance-like mist rises from a small dark vessel toward a soft opening above.

Name

The Fragrance, Not The Perfumer

The name keeps the author from becoming the object of the gaze.

I first called the work Freeing the Mind from the Mind. Later, after the Tao Te Ching had been read again and again, the present title arrived: Teaching the Unteachable. In the same way, अहम् अस्मि is a pen name only in the ordinary world of forms. Read as I Am, it is closer to the real being than any legal, social, or public name.

A Persian saying asks the fragrance to speak, not the perfumer. The goal is not for anyone to see through my eyes. The goal is to see the light more directly. The finger is not the moon. The word is not the Real. The self-image is not the Self. And yet sometimes, through a word, the gaze softens.
